Step 1: Install the Posts and Piers

The floor-joist frame is typically supported by 4 x 4 posts set in concrete pier blocks. For a stable foundation, it is important to dig and pour concrete foundations at the site. 

Step 2: Set up the Deck Framing

The framing around the pool usually consists of 18 pieces of the frame with two parallel sides and two angled edges. These are then screwed to the internal piers that face the pool. 

Step 3: Apply the Decking

You can then lay the 2″ x 6″ decking on the outside support of the pool, about 1/2 inch from the edge. This will allow for expansion. You can find several methods online to taper the boards so that they radiate outwards from the center.

Step 4: Positioning the Guard Rail

You can purchase pre-cut railings at your local home improvement shop and install them at the joints where two-floor joist frames intersect. Cut and screw a 2×4 on top of the 2×6, and then fill in the space below the railing using 2 x 2 plumb balusters.

Step 5: Assemble the Stairs

Pre-cut stair stringers can be used to save time when creating the final steps from the deck down to the ground.
